Dr. Blucker was a pioneer for women's athletics in general and FIU women's sports in particular in the 1960s and '70s. After starting the women's softball program at Florida State and leading the Seminoles to the 1970 senior college state championship, Dr. Blucker came to FIU in 1972 as an assistant professor of Health, Physical Education and Athletics and received much of the credit for launching the university's women's athletics program. After initiating volleyball, softball and golf teams in 1972, she coached the first softball and volleyball teams while carrying a full- time teaching load. She won 82 matches over three seasons of volleyball for a .641 winning percentage and guided the Sunblazers to the 1975 senior college state championships. In softball, Dr. Blucker coached five years at FIU, posting 85 wins and a .574 winning percentage.
