Final Box Score
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida International University women's soccer team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to South Florida in the final minutes of the second half to tie its second-consecutive contest, 2-2 on Friday evening.
With the tie, FIU is now 1-10-2 and USF is 5-6-2.
Both teams waited until the second half to start their scoring. The host Bulls jumped out to a 2-0 advantage on two goals by virute of a pair of headers by Jenny Mulvihill. The USF forward scored both goals on corner kicks at the 62:47 and 64:40 marks, respectively.
FIU junior midfielder Charissa Gingerich cut into the Bulls' lead by capitalizing on a loose ball within the USF goal box at the 78th minute mark to find the back of the net. Nearly eight minutes later, the visiting Golden Panthers struck again to even the contest at 2-2. Sophomore Elizabeth Durozel knotted the contest with some fancy footwork and courtesy of some quality passing from Kristy Caunter and Annelie Lindborg, who each recorded an assist on the goal. Durozel went 1-on-1 with the USF goalkeeper and got the game-tying shot past her to tie the contest with just less than four minutes left in regulation.
FIU goalkeeper Juliana Gomez made a season-high 11 saves in the contest.
The two teams battled for the remainder of the contest, including a pair of ten-minute overtime periods; however, neither team could score the game winner.
The Golden Panthers will continue their season-ending three game road swing next Friday, October 24, as they will take on Arkansas-Little Rock at 8 p.m. in Sun Belt Conference action.
