MIAMI – Two goals by redshirt junior
Janessa Taddei sparked the FIU women’s
soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Arkansas-Little
Rock.
A free kick by Janessa Taddei in the 81st
minute, following a Trojans foul was the
gamewinner. The win improves the FIU record
to 4-0 on the season at the FIU soccer stadium.
The win raises the Golden Panthers’
record to 5-9 and 3-2 in the Sun Belt; meanwhile,
Arkansas-Little Rock falls to 1-14-1 overall
and 0-7 in the conference.
In the win, the Golden Panthers dominated
the offensive side of the attack with a
30-5 advantage. In addition to the two goals
by Taddei, junior Janet Ligouri recorded
10 shots in a winning cause.
The Golden Panthers jumped out to a 1-0
lead when sophomore Kristin Webb sent a
lead pass nearly 20 yards to Taddei. The
Tampa, Fla. native beat the Trojans’
keeper with a shot to the right side for
her team-leading sixth goal on the season.
FIU looked to extend its lead with an aggressive
attack on the UALR defense. However, the
Trojans’ denied three Golden Panther
opportunities.
UALR turned on its offensive attack, capitalizing
on its first shot as Romanne Frilot scored
her fourth goal of the season. Frilot received
a pass on a corner kick from Ariel McPherson
and in a scramble in front of the goal;
she got the equalizer past the FIU defense
to knot the score at 1-1.
Next, the Golden Panthers host Arkansas
State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the FIU Soccer
Complex.
