Ann Arbor - Coming off a strong performance Friday night that saw them lose 1-0 to Michigan State in double overtime, FIU's men's soccer team was overwhelmed by the Wolverines as they fell 5-1 to Michigan.
FIU fell behind early when Matt Schmidt netted a header in the 3rd minute of play to give the host team the lead. Michigan would never look back.
The lead would grow to two when Michigan's Jeffrey Quijano scored his first goal of the season.
After a Perica Marosevic goal put Michigan up by three, a Wolverine own goal in the 79th minute gave FIU its only score
Michigan would add two more goals late in the match bringing the final score to 5-1.
Michael Anderson (Weston, Fla.), who started at goal in place of Kyle Thomas (Jensen Beach, Fla.), finished with four saves. On offense, Juan Guerra (Caracas, Venezuela) took seven shots for the Golden Panthers.
FIU returns to action Friday, September 21st at 8pm when they host Illinois-Chicago.
