MIAMI - Freshman Sebastian Frings is wasting no time making a name for himself on FIU men's soccer team. Frings lifted the Golden Panthers to a 4-2 victory on Sunday afternoon against Howard by netting two goals, including the game-winner.
Though Howard outshot FIU, 15-8, the Golden Panthers made the most of their opportunities. Steven Cabas helped set up Frings' first goal, which boosted his scoring streak to four consecutive games.
Cabas then put in one of his own roughly 14 minutes into the second half off an assist from Nicolas Chase.
The Bison cut the lead to 2-1 when Lemuel Lyons took a direct shot from the left side of the box with more than 15 minutes remaining. Frings gave the Golden Panthers some breathing room when he scored from the left side with 8:20 remaining in the game.
Howard attacked again with less than five minutes to go when Matt Marshall's header hit the right post fell in for the score. However, the Golden Panthers got the last word when Diego Tamburus dribbled around his defender and drew out the goalie for his first score of the season with 1:30 remaining.
FIU heads out of town on Friday when it travels to Akron, Ohio, to face Saint Louis at 2:30 p.m. for the first match of a three-game road trip.
