WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (February 28, 2010) --- The No. 41-ranked FIU women's tennis team (5-5) fell to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (5-4), 4-3, on Sunday, February 28 at the Indoor Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C.
FIU and Wake Forest split the first two doubles matches of the afternoon. The Demon Deacons took the first match as Alieen Davis and Emilee Malvehy defeated Magali Holt and Christine Seredni, 8-3. The team of Maria Spenceley and Maria Jose Vallasciani downed Ryann Cutillo and Katarina Reveche, 8-4, to tie the doubles matches to 1-1. The Demon Deacons took the doubles point with a 9-8 (8-6) victory by Kathryn Talbert and Sasha Kulikova over the No. 48-ranked team of Liset Brito and Priscilla Castillo.
In singles competition, FIU picked up victories by Brito (5-4, 6-3 over Malvehy), Spenceley (6-4, 2-6, 6-2 over No. 117 Talbert) and Castillo (7-6, 6-0 over Cutillo). Seredni fell to Kulikova, 6-2, 6-3, in the game clinching match. Also suffering losses on the afternoon were Vallasciani, who lost to Reveche (6-2, 6-4) and Holt, who lost to Davis (6-2, 6-1).
The Golden Panthers return home to host the Boston College Eagles on Wednesday, March 3. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. ET.
