Willis Wright Wows in 14-6 Loss to WKU

Box Score MIAMI (Oct. 27, 2012) – The FIU football team couldn't overcome a fourth-quarter botched punt that resulted in the WKU winning touchdown in a 14-6 loss to the Hilltoppers on Saturday night at Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium.

FIU's six points came on two Jack Griffin field goals. He converted a 29-yarder in the first quarter and a 39-yarder in the fourth quarter, increasing his career scoring record to 245 points.

The FIU defense stepped up big behind a strong performance from Greg Hickman. The junior out of Tampa, Fla., led the team with two sacks, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble, quarterback hurry and a pass break-up, on top of his eight total tackles. Redshirt senior Chuck Grace returned his fifth-career interception for 33 yards in the third quarter. Sophomore Giovani Francois added one sack and three tackles on the night.

Offensively, junior Willis Wright had another monster game with five catches for 128 yards. The Miami native eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the third-straight game, marking the first time in program history that an FIU receiver has topped the 100-yard mark in three-straight games. Wright's 366 receiving yards over the past three games is the fourth-most by an FIU ball catcher in a three-game span.

Redshirt freshman T.J. Lowder and redshirt junior Zach Schaubhut each hauled in their first-career receptions in the contest.

The Panthers (1-8, 0-5 SBC) will return to the pitch on Saturday, Nov. 3, when they take on the South Alabama Jaguars. The 3:30 p.m. ET matchup will be the first-ever
meeting between the two teams.
