CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Nov. 5, 2014) – Conference USA continued its devotion to excellence on and off the field as 22 student-athletes were named to the 2014 Conference USA Women's Soccer All-Academic Teams. Representing the FIU women's soccer team were
Johanna Volz and
Ashleigh Shim, both of whom are two-time recipients of the award.
Tabbed one of 30 NCAA Div. I women's soccer seniors selected as a Senior CLASS Candidate, Shim was a pre-season all-conference selection, as well as a C-USA Third Team selection. She was named one of Conference USA's top 20 players, per Topdrawersoccer.com and ended the regular season tied for No. 6 in the conference with three assists in league games. Her two-goal match versus North Florida moved the Jacksonville, Fla., native into FIU's top 10 with 17 goals, while she also graduates as the 10
th-highest points scorer with 47 for her career. A 2013 All-Academic honoree, Shim posts nearly a 3.6 in the classroom, majoring in sport and fitness studies.
Volz, who was also named to the 2013 Conference USA All-Academic squad, was the leader of FIU's midfield corps this season, while posting two goals, one of which came via a penalty kick. She scored the game-winner versus Murray State. With the third-highest GPA on the team (3.77) , Volz is majoring in sport and fitness studies, while serving as one of three captains for FIU during the 2014 season.
