JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Dec. 21, 2014)
- In the final game of the UNF Hampton Inn Holiday Classic, redshirt freshman Kiandre'a Pound registered 23 points, two shy of her career-high, to help the women's basketball team defeat Wofford College, 83-75. With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-7 on the year, while the Terriers drop to 3-9.

Joining Pound in double-figures were junior Taylor Shade with 17, senior Marita Davydova who added 14 and senior Tynia McKinzie who chipped in with 13. Both Pound and Davydova garnered double-doubles as Pound had 10 boards and Davydova pulled down a game-high 12. The 6-foot-3 center also added a team-best four assists on the day.

For the game, FIU shot 37.1 percent (23-of-62), while Wofford was 36.0 percent (27-of-75) from the floor. The Panthers out-rebounded the Terriers, 53-40, and 17 of the 53 rebounds were offensive boards which resulted in 18 second-chance points for FIU.

FIU scored the first five points of the game before Wofford went on a 7-0 run, tying the game up at the 15:28 mark. The Panthers quickly responded going on a 6-0 run over three minutes to take a 13-7 lead. Neither team shot particularly well in the first as FIU was 35.5 percent (11-of-31), while Wofford was 29.4 percent (10-of-34) from the field; however, FIU used a strong 13-6 run late that included three three-pointers, in the last 2:50 of the half to head into the locker room with a 36-27 lead.

Coming out of the break, the Panthers opened things up an 11-6 run over the first five minutes of the second. Wofford slowly chipped away at the lead pulling within six with 8:12 left to go. Despite matching FIU almost basket-for-basket for the remainder of the game, the Terriers could not shut down the Panther inside game late, as FIU prevailed 83-75.

The Panthers return to the court after the holidays for the annual FIU Sun and Fun Classic on Dec. 29-30. FIU welcomes Auburn, Bowling Green and Hampton to the magic city, and will first take on the Tigers of Auburn at 6 p.m. ET on Dec. 29 before Hampton and Bowling Green face off at 8 p.m. ET.
