Box Score MIAMI, Fla. (March 1, 2014) – The FIU baseball team dropped its first game of 2014, a 3-0 loss to the Dartmouth Big Green on Saturday. With the loss, the Panthers are 10-1 on the year. Dartmouth out-hit FIU, 11-6, in its win.
Junior pitcher Mike Ellis struck out five batters and allowed two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of work. Senior
Mitchell Davis and sophomore
Jason Morozowski combined for 3 1/3 relief innings, allowing one run. Sophomore second baseman
Edwin Rios collected two hits for the Panthers in the loss.
After Elis got the first batter out to start the game, Dartmouth put on three-straight base runners to load the bases. An RBI single to center by Thomas Roulis gave the Big Green their first run of the game. It was the first run FIU has surrendered to an opponent in the first inning this season.
The Big Green manufactured a run in the sixth inning. Outfielder Jeff Keller led off with a single and then stole second. He went on to score on a sacrifice fly. The Big Green added another in the eighth on an RBI single from Nick Lombardi.
FIU closes out its series with the Big Green at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the FIU Baseball Stadium.
