FIU Women’s Tennis Falls to Boston University, 5-2

MIAMI (March 15, 2014) – The FIU women's tennis team (5-4) dropped a 5-2 decision to the Boston Terriers (7-6) on Saturday afternoon at the FIU Tennis Courts.
 
Boston took an early lead, winning the doubles point, but FIU responded with a win at the No. 3 position. Senior Giulietta Boha and sophomore Aleksandra Trifunovic defeated Kim McCallum and Madison Craft, 8-1. However, BU took the final two doubles matches as freshmen Nina Nagode and Tina Mohorcic fell to Leonie Athanasiadis and Johanna Hyoty, 8-6, and freshman Valentina Briceno and sophomore Carlotta Orlando lost to Barbara Rodriguez and Lauren Davis, 8-7 (4).
 
The Terriers extended their lead, 3-0, taking back-to-back singles matches as Nagode fell to Hyoty, 6-2, 6-0 and Briceno lost to McCallum, 6-2, 6-1. Mohorcic got FIU on the board, 3-1, with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Rodriguez. However, BU clinched the match when Orlando lost to Davis, 6-3, 6-3. Boha had her streak of 13-straight victories snapped with a loss to Sami Lieb, 6-3, 6-3. Trifunovic closed out the afternoon with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Athanasiadis.
 
The Panthers will next host Albany on Tuesday, March 18, from the FIU Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
