@FIUBaseball Downs Dartmouth, 11-7, to Take Series

Box Score MIAMI (March 2, 2014) – FIU picked up an 11-7 victory over Dartmouth on Sunday to take two-of-three games from the Big Green on the weekend. After getting just six hits on Saturday, the Panthers (11-1) muscled 14 hits on Sunday.

Junior pitcher Robby Kalaf went five innings to earn his first career victory in an FIU uniform. The Brandon, Fla. native allowed just four hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out four batters. Freshman Cody Crouse hurled two strong innings of relief, not allowing a base runner and striking out three.

FIU's middle of the order had a strong day, as the three through six hitters combined for 10 hits on the day. Junior Aramis Garcia was 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a two-run homer. Senior Zach Sweety and junior Josh Anderson each had three hits, while sophomore Edwin Rios went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Junior Roche Woodard had two hits and drove in four runs, three of those coming on a three-run triple in the third inning.

Dartmouth was the first to get on the board, plating two runs in the first. The Panthers came back in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Big Green lead in half. FIU followed that up with a two-run second on an RBI single from Woodard and an RBI groundout from senior Tyler Hibbert.

The Panthers plated six runs in an inning for the third time this season in the third. Rios delivered an RBI double to start the scoring, followed by an RBI single by Sweety. The bases were loaded later in the inning with one out for Woodard. The junior tripled to right center field to score three. Hibbert followed with an RBI single to give FIU a 9-2 advantage.

Leading 9-3 in the eighth with two outs, junior Julius Gaines singled, setting things up for Garcia, who belted his second homer of the season, extending FIU's lead to 11-3. Dartmouth would add four in the ninth, but FIU held on for an 11-7 victory.

FIU will make its first road trip of the season to Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
