MIAMI (March 28, 2014) – The FIU women's tennis team (8-6) defeated the Brown Bears (11-6), 4-3, on Friday afternoon from the FIU Tennis Courts.
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead, winning the double portion of the match. Freshmen
Nina Nagode and
Tina Mohorcic defeated Sarah Kandath and Nikita Uberoi, 8-6, and senior
Giulietta Boha and sophomore
Aleksandra Trifunovic downed Ammu Mandalap and Ashley Noyes, 8-6.
FIU made it 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win by Mohorcic over Kandath. The Bears got on the board as Noyes defeated freshman
Valentina Briceno, 6-3, 6-1. The Panthers made it 3-1 when Boha defeated Mandalap, 6-4, 6-2. Brown tied the match at 3-3, winning two-straight as Uberoi defeated Nagode, 6-2, 6-4, and Trifunovic fell to Hannah Cambhi, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (2). Sophomore
Carlotta Orlando clinched the match for the Panthers, defeating Dayna Lord, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
The Panthers will next host UCF on Friday, April 4, from the FIU Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
