Box Score MIAMI (April 25, 2014) – The FIU baseball team (28-12) picked up a lightning-shortened 7-1 victory over Saint Peter's on Friday night. The game finished after 6 ½ innings of play.

Mike Franco picked up win number seven in 2014, going six innings, giving up one run and striking out seven. Freshman
Brandon Gomez hit his first career home run in the win. Junior
Brian Portelli collected three hits and junior
Julius Gaines extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a two-hit effort.
In the bottom of the first, junior
Josh Anderson drove in the first of his two runs on a sacrifice fly, scoring Sweety, who singled earlier in the inning on a bunt. Junior
Aramis Garcia moved him from first to third before Anderson's plate appearance.
FIU plated two more in the second, as Portelli and Gaines each led off with singles and then were bunted over by Gomez. Freshman
Gunnar McNeill then singled to score Portelli and Gaines to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
After the Peacocks scored one on an RBI groundout in the top of the fourth, Gomez answered with a leadoff homer in the bottom half. Anderson followed with an RBI single in that same inning to up the Panther lead to 5-1.
FIU added two more in the fifth, thanks to an RBI double by Gaines and a throwing error by the short stop.
The Panthers and Peacocks are back in action on Saturday, as the two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
