Tulane Walks Off as Winners as @FIUBaseball Falls, 3-2

Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. (May 16, 2014) – Tulane scored on a bases loaded infield hit in the bottom of the ninth to earn the walk-off win over FIU on Friday night, 3-2.

Junior Josh Anderson led the way for the Panthers, going 2-for-4 while driving in one run. The Panthers had a tough night against Tulane starting pitcher, Randy LeBlanc, who gave up just four hits in 8 1/3 innings of work.

Tulane kicked off the bottom of the first with two-straight singles off junior starting pitcher Robby Kalaf. Stephen Alemais led off with a single, and then scored. Garrett Descahamp doubled to left centerfield, where the ball appeared to skip over the wall, deflect off the net and bounce back into play. It was not ruled a ground rule double, and Tulane took a 1-0 lead.

Alemais continued to be a thorn in the side to the Panthers as he singled with one out in the third, stole second and then advanced to third on the throwing error on the steal attempt. An RBI groundout scored Alemais to give the Green Wave a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh, senior Tyler Hibbert worked a leadoff walk, advanced to second, and then scored on Anderson's single to cut the Tulane lead to 2-1.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the ninth, junior Julius Gaines reached on an error and then advanced to third on a base-hit by Anderson. Sophomore Edwin Rios delivered the game-tying hit, forcing Tulane to hit in the bottom of the ninth.

FIU closes out the 2014 regular season at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.
