@FIUMensSoccer Travels to East Tennessee State on Tuesday

MIAMI (Sept. 15, 2014) – The FIU men's soccer team (1-2-1) will close out a brief, two-game road trip as it travels to East Tennessee State on Tuesday evening. First touch is set for 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
FIU earned its first draw of the 2014 season, as it tied Elon 0-0 last Wednesday night. FIU outshot Elon 11-10 in the contest. The Panthers, who were outshot 5-1 in the first half, matched Elon's five shots in the second frame. Then in the overtime periods, FIU applied all the pressure, getting five shots off while allowing none to the Phoenix, which included a header off the post for the Panthers just minutes into the extra frame. Redshirt freshman David Mitchell made the start in goal for FIU and had a great outing. The Jamaica native made four saves.

First Win Over a Ranked Opponent in Three Years
FIU downed No. 19 Michigan, 1-0, on Aug. 29. The win over the Wolverines gave FIU its first win over a ranked opponent since Oct. 2, 2011 vs. No. 21 Kentucky, 1-0.

New Man in Charge
Head Coach Scott Calabrese comes to FIU after a successful six-year stint as head coach at East Tennessee State. A program that began play in 2008, Calabrese led ETSU to two Atlantic Sun Tournament Championships (2010, 2013), a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, and four consecutive seasons of 10-or-more wins (2010-13). This past season, the Buccaneers were crowned 2013 Atlantic Sun Champions after earning a 3-1 victory over North Florida in the A-Sun Tournament Championship.

Panthers Return Nearly 82 Percent of 2013 Scoring
In total, FIU scored 27 goals last season. Of those goals that were scored last year, 22 of those goals are from players that are returning to this year's squad (81.5 percent). That ranks 10th in the country.
