HUNTINGTON, WVa. (Jan. 15, 2015) – The women's basketball team fell, 67-61, to Marshall on Thursday at the Cam Henderson Center. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 3-12 overall and 0-4 in Conference USA play, while the win lifts the Thundering Herd to 10-5 on the season and 2-2 against league opponents.
Marshall had three players register double-digit scoring figures, including seniors Leah Scott and A.J. Johnson who had 19 apiece. Redshirt freshman

Marita Davydova combined for 35 points as Pound had 24, one point shy of tying her career-high, and Davydova added 11. The dynamic duo also led the Panthers on the boards, combining for 22 rebounds, and recorded double-doubles.
Marshall scored the first six points to start the game as FIU didn't get on the board until the 16:44 mark. The Herd continued to push offensively as they went on a 10-2 run over the next six minutes of play, holding the Panthers to only one field goal in eight attempts. They finally got things going, pulling within four in the final four minutes of the half. The stingy Panther defense held Marshall to one field goal in its final 10 attempts of the first.
FIU came out of the locker room scoring the first five points of the second to take its first lead of the night, 29-28. The Panthers extended it to five at the 10:16 mark, but the Herd came charging back to tie things up at 49 with 6:14 left in the game. Things swung back-and-forth as the remainder of the game featured two ties and eight lead changes. The Herd pulled ahead by four with 3:22 left to play, but FIU hung in there pulling back within two with 2:35 remaining. In the final minute of play, the Panthers had to foul in order to stop the clock; however, Marshall hit all of its free throws down the stretch and FIU could not hit its final field goal attempt as the Panthers fell 67-61.
For the game, FIU shot 38.2 percent (26-of-68), while Marshall was 37.1 percent (23-of-62). The Panthers out-rebounded the Herd, 45-43, but shot a season-low 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from the free throw line.
FIU remains on the road for its next contest, heading to Bowling Green, Ky., to take on the WKU Lady Toppers on Saturday, Jan. 17. The game will tip off at 3 p.m. ET.
