MIAMI (Jan. 29, 2015) – Coming off a 4-3 win over Liberty last Sunday, the FIU women's tennis team will turn its attention to Stetson as the Panthers (1-0) host the Hatters (1-0) on Friday, Jan .30, from the FIU Tennis Courts. First serve is set for noon.
FIU will be looking for its first 2-0 start to a season since the 2010 campaign.
The Panthers have five players with 10-or-more singles victories this season, including freshman
Nerma Caluk, who leads the team with 14. The Bosnia/Herzegovina native clinched the match for the Panthers versus the Flames, defeating her opponent, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4). Junior
Carlotta Orlando is second on the team in singles wins, posting 12 this season after winning her match at the No. 2 position (6-3, 6-0) on Sunday. The win was the 22
nd dual victory and 41
st overall of her collegiate career.
Friday will mark the 23
rd meeting all-time between FIU and Stetson (Division I), with the Panthers holding a 17-5 edge in the series history. The last meeting between the Panthers and Hatters resulted in a 4-3 win for Stetson in DeLand, Fla., on Feb. 9, 2014.
Admission to Friday's match is free to the public.
