@FIUVolleyball Earns a Conference “W” against Marshall

MIAMI (October 2, 2015) – The FIU volleyball team (9-6, 3-2 C-USA) remained undefeated versus conference opponents on Lime Court at FIU Arena with a victory over Marshall 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 25-18) Friday night. 


The Panthers were led by junior Katie Hogan, who notched career-high 19 kills against the Thundering Herd. Hogan added three blocks, three services aces and hit a .531 on the night. Senior Lucia Castro had 14 kills and sophomore Jennifer Ene had 11 kills of her own. Freshman Katie Friesen led FIU with 30 assists while senior Adriana McLamb led the team in digs with 25.


FIU started strong, going up 1-0 in the first set with a 25-17 victory. The Panthers began with a new lineup which had four middle blockers in the mix. A high hitting percentage carried over to the second set where the Panthers took a 2-0 lead in a close 26-24 victory. Marshall responded in the third set, beating the Panthers 20-25 to force a fourth set. Hogan led the fourth set with seven kills giving FIU the match victory, 3-1 (25-18).


FIU finished the match with a .302 hitting percentage, while holding Marshall to only a .219 clip. FIU held a 10-2 edge in blocks and doubled Marshall's aces, 8-4.


The Panthers will face the Miners of UTEP on Sunday at 1 p.m.
