MIAMI (October 21, 2015) – The FIU Volleyball team (12-8, 6-3 in C-USA) got another conference victory, this time a 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22) win against the Lady Techsters. FIU was led by sophomore
Jennifer Ene who posted a career-high 19 kills on the night. Ene also added seven blocks and a .441 hitting percentage. Freshman
Katie Friesen led the way in assists with 32, surpassing the 500-mark on the season (508). Friesen also led the team in digs with 19, which is a career-high for her.
The Panthers pulled out a close, 25-23 victory in the first set to take a 1-0 lead. LA Tech got out to an early 5-0 lead. FIU fought most of the set, and clawed their way back to get the early victory. Ene led the set with 9 kills and accounted for 10.5 of the Panther's 18 points.
FIU took the second set with a 25-21 victory to gain the 2-0 lead. The team was led by junior
Katie Hogan, who posted five kills and a hitting percentage of .455. Hogan also tallied two service aces in the set. Hogan would go to post 12 kills on the night.
The Panthers dropped the third set, 25-20 to maintain the 2-1 lead. FIU was out hit .344-.189 in terms of percentage.
FIU claimed the match 3-1 in the fourth set with a 25-22 win. The offense was fairly balanced, but it was led by senior
Lucia Castro with four kills. Castro racked up 10 kills on the night.
The Panthers are now 5-0 versus conference opponents on Lime Court at FIU Arena.
The FIU Volleyball team will travel to Boca Raton on Friday to take on the in-state, conference-rival FAU Owls. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
