Charlotte, NC (November 14, 2015) – The FIU Volleyball team (15-12, 9-7 in C-USA) swept the 49ers 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-18) in Charlotte for their regular-season finale. With post-season now in mind, the team is ready to leave their imprint at the 2015 C-USA Conference Tournament in San Antonio next week.
The Panthers got off to a slow start, but clawed their way back to a 25-20 victory. FIU hit a .353 percentage and was led by senior
Gloria Levorin with five kills. Defensively, senior
Adriana McLamb held the fort with nine digs in the set. McLamb finished the night with 18 digs.
Again in the second set, the Panthers struggled early. Down 22-15, FIU went on a furious run to take the set, 26-24, giving them a 2-0 lead. The Panthers comeback was led by the beast, junior
Katie Hogan who brought out her inner-Hulk with six kills and two blocks in the final stretch. Hogan finished the night with a .619 hitting percentage, her best output as a Panther.
The Panthers coasted to a 25-18 victory to give them the match. Levorin once again led the team with four kills and two blocks. Freshman
Katie Friesen posted 16 assists and was one dig away from her ninth double-double of the year.
FIU dominated offensively. The Panther hit a .291 percentage on the night. The team stuck to their strengths, posting seven blocks and seven aces, a recent weapon of the Panthers. Levorin and Hogan led the night with 13 kills apiece. . The victory puts the final stamp on the regular-season for the Panthers and gives them a two-game win streak entering post-season
FIU will travel to San Antonio next week to partake in the 2015 Conference USA Championship. The Panthers will be seeded No. 7and will take on the host school and No.2 seed, UTSA on Friday, Nov. 20
th. First serve will be announced later this week.
