DENTON, Texas (Feb. 21, 2015)
– The women's basketball team fell at North Texas, 77-61, Saturday afternoon from the Super Pit. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 3-22 overall and 0-14 against Conference USA opponents, while the win brings the Mean Green to 5-20 on the season and 4-10 in league play.

Redshirt freshman Kiandre'a Pound led the Panthers with 19 points. She has now scored double-digit figures in 18 games this season. Seniors Zsofia Labady and Marita Davydova joined Pound in double-digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Labady's 12 points were a season-best and one point shy of her career-high 13. The trio led FIU in rebounding with a combined 20, led by Davydova's nine. North Texas had nine-of-11 players reach the scoreboard, led by senior BreAnna Dawkins with a game-high 21.

It was a close game from the get go as the opening half featured five ties and eight lead changes. After North Texas opened the game scoring the first four points, FIU responded by hitting back-to-back field goals, one of which was a three, to take its first lead of the game. After exchanging buckets over the next couple of minutes, the Panthers went on a 7-0 run and took a three-point advantage. The Mean Green responded with a 6-0 offensive burst, but FIU hung in there matching North Texas basket-for-basket until the end of the half, where the FIU was held scoreless for the final three minutes and went into the locker room with a 38-30 deficit.

FIU's offensive struggles seemed to be halted after Davydova hit a jumper from the key and Labady hit a three, but North Texas responded point-for-point and began to out rebound the Panthers which resulted in multiple second-chance points for the Mean Green. North Texas pulled ahead by as many as 14 with 14:30 left to play, but the Panthers would not go down quietly embarking on a 7-0 run over a three-minute span to pull back within seven. However, the Mean Green used a 12-2 run to take a back its double-digit lead. Trailing by 18 with 3:43 left to play, the Panthers could not seem to anything going on the offensive end as they fell, 76-61.

For the game, FIU shot 33.9 (20-of-59), while North Texas hit 42.9 percent (27-of-63) of its attempts. The Mean Green edged out the Panthers in rebounds, 44-39. Despite both teams pulling down 11 offensive rebounds, North Texas had 13 second-chance points compared to only eight from FIU. The Mean Green also almost doubled FIU's 16 points in the paint with 36.

The Panthers return to Miami for its final two home games of the season, when they host Marshall for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. from Lime Court at FIU Arena.
