Amari Hwkins finally broke the spell at the 5:07 point with a baseline jumper. The Panther defense came alive the rest of the way as they held Marshall to only three baskets in its final 13 attempts of the half, but went into the break with a 38-21 deficit.
The Panthers' low-post offense came alive to open the second half as they pulled themselves within 10 at the 13:38 point. The Herd, however, would not go away as they hit back-to-back field goals that sparked a 16-4 run over five minutes as they took a 22-point lead. FIU fought hard to get back in it, but could not find its way and fell 74-50.
