Maryna Samoday served eight-straight points on court one to take the lead and eventually win the set, 18-16, and clinch the match against No. 6 Florida State. The Panthers won on all five courts to defeat the Seminoles, 5-0, and is set to take on No. 7 Long Beach State in round two following the USC/Pepperdine match.

Martyna Gluchowicz got FIU off to a great start with a 21-18, 21-13 victory, and the No. 3 duo of sophomore
Marina Boulanger and senior
Darija Sataric picked up a 23-21, 22-20 win to give the Panthers an early 2-0 lead.
After winning the first set, 21-15, the No. 1 pair of Samoday and freshman
Anja Licka fell in the second, 22-20 to force a third and deciding set. After a shaky start, Licka and Samoday found themselves in a 14-7 hole as the FSU held match point. The freshman from Jona, Switzerland had ice in her veins as she served eight consecutive points to force an FIU match point. The set swung back and forth until they overcame all odds to win, 18-16, and clinch the match.
FIU continues action in the AVCA Sand Volleyball Championships around 2:30 p.m. ET (1:30 CT) to take on No. 7 Long Beach State (14-4). The 49ers upset No. 2 Hawaii in the first round, avenging a loss earlier in the season to the Rainbow Wahine. The winner of this match plays the winner of the USC/Pepperdine match tomorrow in the semifinals at 11 a.m. ET. The loser will play the winner of the Georgia State/Stetson match in the loser's bracket.
