@FIUBaseball Drops Game One of Weekend Series with UAB, 8-1

MIAMI (May 8, 2015) – The FIU baseball team (23-26, 11-14 C-USA) dropped an 8-1 decision to the UAB Blazers (27-21, 12-13 C-USA) on Friday evening from the FIU Baseball Satidum.
 
Senior Josh Anderson (1-for-4) plated FIU's lone run with a home run over the left-field fence in the bottom of the second. Five different Panthers, including Anderson accounted for FIU's five hits (Zack SoriaJack ShaafJC Escarra and Rey Perez).
 
Freshman Andres Nunez (4-5) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs (two earned) on six hits in seven innings of action. The left-hander struck out nine Blazers on the night.
 
UAB jumped out to a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second when Anderson blasted his third home run of the season. The solo shot cut the Blazers' lead to 2-1. However, UAB rattled off six runs (four in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the ninth) to hand the Panthers the 8-1 loss. 
 
UAB's James Naile (8-3) struck out 10 FIU batters and held the Panthers to just five hits over eight innings for the victory. The Blazers were led by Adam Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored.
 
Both teams will be back at tomorrow with a 6 p.m. first pitch from the FIU Baseball Stadium.
