MIAMI (Sept. 18, 2015) – The FIU volleyball team (7-4) fell to the Seattle Redhawks (8-5), 3-1 (25-12, 17-25, 25-13, 25-16) on Friday, Sept. 18, in the final match of the 2015 FIU Invite.
The Panthers hit .123 for the match, while Seattle registered a clip of .291.
FIU was led by senior
Lucia Castro and junior
Katie Hogan, who posted nine kills each. Castro notched 10 digs, while senior
Adriana McLamb registered a match-high 18. Sophomore
Tia Clay had a solid night, hitting a team-best .333 with six kills and three block assists.
FIU dropped the first set, 25-12. The Panthers were held to a -.061 hitting percentage, committing six attacking errors with just four kills. It was a set controlled by the Redhawks the entire way as Seattle hit .282 with four service aces.
The Panthers responded with a 25-17 win to tie the match a one game apiece. FIU's defense forced Seattle to hit .000 for the set, registering six kills and six attacking errors.
The Redhawks regained the lead, taking set number three, 25-13. Seattle hit .476 in the set, committing just two attacking errors, while tallying five service aces.
Seattle closed out the match with a 25-16 win the fourth set to take the match, 3-1.
The Panthers will next host C-USA foe Florida Atlantic on Sunday, Sept. 20. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
