MIAMI (Sept. 20, 2015) – The FIU volleyball team (8-4, 2-0 C-USA) remained perfect in Conference USA action, defeating the Florida Atlantic Owls (8-5, 0-1 C-USA), 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-11, 25-18) on Sunday afternoon from Lime Court at FIU Arena.
Senior
Lucia Castro led a Panthers with a match-high 16 kills, while notching five digs and six total blocks. Fellow senior
Gloria Levorin tallied a game-high .611 attacking percentage with 11 kills and zero hitting errors. The FIU middle blocker also registered nine total blocks in the match. Freshman
Katie Friesen registered 37 assists for the Panthers and was one dig (9) shy of recording a double-double. Senior
Adriana McLamb had 23 digs in the contest – four shy of her career best (UTEP – 11/7/14).
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 first-set victory. FAU responded with a 25-21 win in the second set. However, FIU dominated the final two sets, winning 25-11 and 25-18 to pick up the teams' eighth victory of the season.
For the match, FIU registered a .270 hitting percentage with 48 kills. The Panthers totaled 44 assists, 52 digs and 15.5 total blocks. FIU held FAU to a .111 attacking percentage, forcing the Owls to commit 30 attacking errors and nine service errors.
FIU will continue C-USA play traveling to Houston, Texas, on Friday, Sept. 25. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
