MIAIM (Sept. 5, 2015) – The FIU men's soccer team (1-2-0) will look to make it two-straight victories as it visits the Stetson Hatters on Sunday night. First touch will be at 7 p.m. from the Athletic Training Center on Stetson's campus.
LAST TIME OUT: FIU earned a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Fairfield Stags on Thursday night at the FIU Soccer Stadium. Senior
Daniel Gonzalez was responsible for netting the game-tying goal, while junior
Luis Betancur knocked in the game-winner in the 82nd minute. The goal for Betancur was the fourth of his career and his second career game-winning goal. The goal for Gonzalez was the sixth of his four-year career for the captain.
LAST SEASON vs. STETSON: Last season, FIU dropped its home opening match to the Hatters on Sept. 5, 2-1. Despite outshooting the Hatters, 23-6, only nine were on goal for the Panthers. Three of Stetson's six shots were on goal.
Juan Benedetty scored the lone goal for the Panthers for the night.
SCOUTING THE HATTERS: Stetson is off to a strong start in the young 2015 season. Last weekend, the Hatters picked up two big road victories at Georgia Southern (3-1) and at FIU's Conference USA foe UAB, 3-0. On Friday, Stetson drew with Detroit, 1-1, resulting in a season record of 2-0-1 entering Sunday's match. Leading the way for the Hatters is Lucas Diniz, who has an outstanding six goals in just three matches.
ALL-TIME AGAINST STETSON: The Panthers hold a commanding 21-4-1 all-time advantage over the Hatters. Prior to last season's loss, the Panthers had won the previous three matches.
