MIAMI (October 13, 2016) -- Following the postponement of last Sunday's home date with Old Dominion, the FIU women's soccer team has nine days between games as the Panthers host a pair of Conference USA games this weekend. FIU hosts Marshall at 7 p.m. Friday and WKU Sunday at 1 p.m. at the FIU Soccer Stadium.
Â
The Panthers last played at home on September 23 and last played a game at all on October 5 at Louisiana Tech.
Â
The Panthers are 2-8-2 on the season, with a 1-3-1 Conference USA mark. In the last three-game league road swing, FIU got a win, a loss and a tie, which included a scoreless draw and shutout. Last Sunday's home contest with ODU was postponed to October 30, giving the Panthers a pair of home games to finish the season.
Â
FIU is led by senior
Alyssa Robinson (Pembroke Pines, Florida / American Heritage HS), who scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the Middle Tennessee victory. Three other Panthers have one goal each, with four others registering at least one assist on the year. After logging her second shutout of the season in the draw at UAB, senior keeper
Sophia Trujillo (Miami, Florida / Gulliver Prep) lowered her goals-against average under 2.0 for the season. She has played all 1,115 minutes in net for the Panthers.
Â
Marshall comes to Miami with a 4-6-3 overall mark, 2-2-1 in C-USA. Like FIU, the Thundering Herd has played four overtime games this season. Marshall defeated Louisiana Tech on the road in conference play, where the Panthers lost, but Marshall lost at home to Middle Tennessee, a team FIU beat in double overtime two weekends ago. Marshall has not lost to FIU in three all-time matches, with two wins and a tie, including a win and a draw in Miami, with all occuring in the month of October over the past three seasons.
Â
The Herd has split time for their two keepers for the season, both having two wins and about 600 minutes in net. Both Emily Moreland and Megan Bonnell have allowed 10 goals each and have about the same goals-against average, hovering around the 1.5 mark.
Â
Jordan Sackaris has six goals and 14 points to lead the team offensively. Teammate Sydney Arnold has six assists for the Herd. Marshall has scored 60 percent of its goals in the first halves of games this season, while the Panthers have only allowed a third of opponents' goals in the first 45 minutes of play.
