MIAMI (October 4, 2016) -- Following its hottest week of the season by result, the FIU women's soccer team finishes a three-game road trip with a Conference USA game Wednesday night at Louisiana Tech, with opening kick at 8 p.m. Eastern.
Â
The Panthers (2-7-2, 1-2-1 C-USA) put together a draw and a win, both in double overtime, last weekend on the road in league play, resulting in four points in the league standings. FIU has not lost to LA Tech in women's soccer, taking both matches in the series. FIU won 3-2 in overtime in the first-ever meeting between the programs, with a game-winning goal from Johanna Volz in the 84
th minute back in October of 2013. The Panthers scored a pair of goals in the second half at home last season (by
Talia McMurtrie and
Ellen Crist) to post a 2-0 shutout of the Lady Techsters on October 11, 2015.
Â
The Panthers scored a season-high three goals, all from different players, in the road win at Middle Tennessee on Sunday. Freshman
Isabella de Almagro (Pembroke Pines, Florida / American Heritage) produced the game-winner in the 103
rd minute for the first league win of the year for FIU. The Panthers vaulted into a tie for eighth after the successful weekend, which included a double-overtime shutout from senior keeper
Sophia Trujillo (Miami, Florida / Gulliver Prep), her second of the season. Senior
Alyssa Robinson (Pembroke Pines, Florida / American Heritage) leads the way for FIU with four goals scored.
Â
LA Tech got off to a great start out of league, but won only one of its first three games in C-USA, sporting an overall mark of 9-3-1, including a seven-game win streak out of league, but just 1-2 in conference. Kathryn Sloan has produced a team-high six goals this season, and the senior holds the program record with 33 for her career. Her 53 shots are nearly a quarter of the team's shots in 2016. The Lady Techsters have played three goal keepers this season, with Kylee Seto leading in minutes played, at just under 750 for the year. The team's goals-against average is 0.90 through 12 games.
Â
This contest is the last of a seven-game stretch that included six games on the road. The Panthers will play four of the finals five in the regular season at home, beginning Sunday at 1 p.m., when they host Old Dominion for a Conference USA contest.
