No. 57 FIU Women’s Tennis Hosts C-USA Foe UTEP on Friday

MIAMI (March 10, 2016) – The No. 57-ranked FIU women's tennis team (10-1) will host Conference USA foe UTEP (7-6) on Friday, March 11. First serve from the FIU Tennis Courts is set for 12 p.m.
 
Admission to Friday's match is free to the public.
 
FIU has won three-straight at home and nine-straight overall.
 
The Panthers are coming off a 7-0 over Butler on Tuesday and will look to improve to 4-1 at home this year with a win over UTEP.  
 
Friday's match will be the second meeting all-time between the two teams. The Miners own a 1-0 record versus Panthers, downing FIU, 6-0, in the first meeting in the series history on March 20, 1998.
 
All six Panthers come into Friday's match with 10-or-more singles wins. Leading the way for FIU is freshman Maryna Veksler, who has posted a team-best 24-5 mark. Redshirt freshman Andrea Lazaro, the reigning C-USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, comes into the UTEP match having won 11-straight and is a perfect 10-0 in dual matches. Lazaro is 17-8 in singles action this season. Both senior Carlotta Orlando and sophomore Nerma Caluk enter Friday's contest riding a nine-match winning streak. Orlando is 17-8 on the year, while Caluk is 22-4. Also notching double-digit wins are junior Nina Nagode (17-10) and senior Kaitlin Brozovich (12-8).
