Before hitting the road for one week Monday morning, FIU wrapped up its season-long 16-game home stand with an 8-4 win over Manhattan at the FIU ballpark Sunday afternoon.
Cody Crouse (1-1) went 6 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run to record the win as the Panthers (9-10) took three of four games from the Jaspers (3-9). FIU finished its home stand 9-7.
FIU rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the third inning.
Kenny Meimerstorf walked and moved to third base on an errant pickoff throw by Manhattan starter Ryan Takacs (0-3).
Nick Mira followed with an RBI single to cut the Jaspers' lead in half.
Kolby Follis then laid down a bunt single before
Jack Schaaf hit a two-run double off the base of the center field wall to give the Panthers a 3-2 advantage.
Zach Files finished the scoring in the four-run third inning driving in Schaaf with a single to right.
The Panthers added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, highlighted by two-run singles by Follis and
Austin Rodriguez. FIU led 8-2.
Follis was 2 for 5 to increase his team-leading batting average to .424. Rodriguez was also 2 for 5.
Irving Lopez went 3 for 4.
FIU begins a five-game road trip Monday with the first game Tuesday night at Jacksonville. The first pitch between FIU and Jacksonville is at 6 p.m. Tuesday night from Sessions Stadium. The game can be heard on the FIU Sports Radio Network.
FIU will play two games at Jacksonville and then travel to North Carolina to open Conference USA play at Charlotte in a three-game series.
