MIAMI (September 3, 2016) – The FIU men's soccer team returns to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. when it faces Niagara University at the FIU Soccer Stadium. The match will be the second game of a women's-men's soccer doubleheader with the Panthers' women's team taking on Miami (Ohio) at noon.
The Panthers (2-1) take the pitch looking for their third-straight win following a hard-fought, 1-0 triumph over Wisconsin on Friday night.
Santiago Patino scored the match's lone goal, doing so in the fifth minute of the contest. It was Patino's third goal of the season and his third in the last two outings.
On the night, FIU held a slight 5-4 advantage in shots, despite the Badgers having the edge in shots on goal, 3-2. FIU had five corner kicks as opposed to the Badgers' two.
Panthers' goalkeeper
Arthur Clapot recorded three saves on the night and improved to 2-1 on the season. His clean sheet is the fifth of his career during his two years at FIU, and the first since a 1-0 win over the Marshall in the 2015 Conference USA title game.
The Purple Eagles started a two-game road trip in the Sunshine State Friday night against Florida Atlantic. In a tough defensive contest that resulted in just three shots on goal, the Purple Eagles came up just short, losing 1-0 in Boca Raton.
Following Sunday's match, the Panthers will play four of their next five matches on the road beginning at North Florida in Jacksonville on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. The lone home match for FIU during that stretch will be its Conference USA opener against Kentucky on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
