The Basics
  • The FIU women's soccer team closed out its 2017 season on Sunday with a tough 4-0 loss to North Texas in Denton, Texas. The Panthers finish the campaign with a 1-14 record and a 0-10 mark in Conference USA. The Mean Green improve to 12-3-3 overall and 7-1-2 in C-USA.
     
  • North Texas scored all four of its goals in the first half, and struck quickly when Cat Sebazco netted her second goal of the year in the 13th-minute of play. That was followed up less than two minutes later when Tori Philips tallied her second of 2017 in the 16th-minute. Ariel Diaz closed out the scoring with her fifth and sixth goals of the year in the 34th and 41st-minute, respectively.
     
  • The Mean Green dominated offensively in the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Panthers 14-6 in the first 45 minutes of play. They followed that up by a 12-5 advantage in the second half.
     
  • Courtney Phillips (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview) led the Panthers with four shots, including one on goal. Paula Quintero (Doral, Fla./Ronald Regan HS) had two shots in the loss.
     
  • Nevena Stojakovic (Nis, Serbia) had six saves for FIU.  
     
Stat of the Game
With North Texas outshooting FIU 26-11 for the game, they also had 10 of the 13 shots that came on goal in the win.
