B-CU splits season series with FIU after 5-3 win Wednesday

DAYTONA BEACH -- Left-hander Donte Lindsay allowed two runs over 7 2/3 innings to lead Bethune-Cookman past FIU, 5-3, Wednesday evening at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach.

The win gave the Wildcats (26-21) a split of the two-game season series with the Panthers (26-21).

Danny Rodriguez hit a solo home run off FIU starter Chris Mourelle (4-3) in the second inning to put B-CU ahead 1-0. The Wildcats added two more runs on a pair of doubles off Cain Spangler in the third.

B-CU built a 5-1 lead into the eighth inning before FIU got late solo home runs by Javier Valdes and JC Escarra to narrow the deficit to two runs. The home run for Escarra was his 12th of the season, which leads the team.

However, down 5-3 was as close as the Panthers came in their final non-conference game of the season.
