Louisiana Tech jumped out to an early lead against FIU Saturday night and ended up with a 10-6 win in the middle game of a three-game series at the FIU ballpark.
The Bulldogs (32-14, 13-10 Conference USA) have won the first two games of the series with the Panthers (26-23, 10-13).
LA Tech put together a five-run third inning and scored two more runs in the fourth off FIU starter
Dominic LoBrutto (1-4) to build a 7-0 lead. LoBrutto went 3 2/3 innings, allowed eight hits and seven runs.
FIU tried to chip away at the LA Tech lead but could only get within four runs.
Irving Lopez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 9-5.
Lopez was 3 for 5, including his fifth home run of the season – a two-run shot off LA Tech starter Nate Harris (7-0).
One inning earlier
JC Escarra hit his 14
th home run of the season. It was a solo homer for the junior catcher.
The Panthers and Bulldogs conclude the series with a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on PantherVision and C-USA TV.
