The Basics

-        For the second time in three matches, the Panthers won the first two sets, but could not close the match in a 3-2 loss to New Orleans at the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Tennessee Tech. FIU falls to 1-4 on the season. The Panthers have played their opponent to within four points in nine of their 19 sets played in 2017.

-        Three Panthers finished in double-digits in kills, led by senior Taija Thomas (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada), who had 16. Freshman setter Aleksandra Grigoreva (Moscow, Russia) collected her first career double-double in just her second match in FIU blue with 48 assists and 15 digs.

-        FIU was able to win the point against the UNO serve nine times in the fifth and deciding frame, but New Orleans produced 11 kills in the fifth set, and finished on an 8-3 run to close out the match.  

Stat of the Match
FIU hit into a season-high 15 blocks by an opponent.

Next Up
FIU finishes the weekend at 4 pm. Saturday, when the Panthers take on host Tennessee State.
