MIAMI (Jan. 27, 2017) – The FIU women's tennis team (2-1) defeated Saint Mary's University (1-1), 4-2, in the consolation round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Lubbock, Texas on
Saturday afternoon.
FIU lost the doubles point as No. 15 duo of
Maryna Veksler and
Ulyana Grib lost to Hind Abdelouahid and Mariia Kozryeva, 6-3. Mina Markovic with her partner Sandra Bozinovic fell to Saint Mary's Clementine Clement and Emma Critser, 6-2.
After doubles, FIU won two straight points in singles play. Veksler won against Abdelouahid in two straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 while Grib defeated Kareena Manji, 6-0, 6-4. No. 3 ranked Andrea Lazaro defeated Kozryeva 6-4, 6-2, winning her 14thmatch of the season for the Panthers. Freshman Sandra Bozinovic clinched the match for the second time in the season, winning 6-4, 6-3 against Saint Mary's Critser.
The Panthers will next face Florida Gulf Coast (1-0) on Friday, February 2. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
