Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

@FIUMensSoccer Drops 3-2 Decision at Charlotte

Panthers lose their first Conference USA match since September 2016

Game Details
RV Charlotte 3, FIU 0
FIU (5-7, 4-1 C-USA), Charlotte (7-3-1, 3-2 C-USA)
Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 | 7 p.m.
Charlotte, North Carolina | Transamerica Field

The Basics
- The FIU men's soccer team came into Sunday's match at Charlotte looking to take sole possession of first place in the Conference USA standings, while also looking to extend its C-USA regular season unbeaten streak to 18 matches. Unfortunately, the Panthers were not able to get things going offensively as the 49ers handed FIU a 3-0 loss – it's first in league play since Sept. 30, 2016 against New Mexico (L, 4-1) – on Sunday at Transamerica Field. The Panthers drop to 5-7 on the year and 4-1 in league play, while Charlotte is 7-3-1 overall and 3-2 in C-USA.

- FIU recorded its second fewest shots of the season on Sunday with eight, while giving up a season-high 22 shots. In addition, Charlotte held a 7-3 advantage in shots in goal and a 9-2 margin in corner kicks.

- Santiago Patino (Orlando, Florida/Freedom) and Jacques Bouvery (Washington, D.C.) each had a team-high two shots for the Panthers in the loss.

- Charlotte struck first in the 36' minute when Maclean Holbrook scored his second goal of the season off assists from Daniel Bruce and Callum Montgomery, giving the 49ers a 1-0 lead. That margin would stand for the final nine minutes of the half, a half that saw Charlotte control things offensively. The 49ers held an 8-3 shots advantage through the first 45 minutes, including a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.

- The 49ers then took a two-goal advantage when Patrick Hogan sent a header past FIU goalkeeper Daniel Gagliardi (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) off a Teddy Chaouche corner kick in the 49' minute for his third of the season. Charlotte added an insurance goal in the 85' minute when Preston Popp recorded his second goal of the season, icing the match for the 49ers.

- Gagliardi had four saves on the night in the loss.
