FIU Dominates UTSA With 45-7 Road Win

James Morgan breaks single-season touchdown passing record

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Nov. 10, 2018) – FIU bounced back into the win column on Saturday night, as the Panthers dominated UTSA in impressive fashion for a 45-7 road victory.

With the win, FIU improves to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in C-USA action, both marks are school-best starts for the Panthers. UTSA falls to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Redshirt junior James Morgan broke the record for most touchdown passes in a single season on Saturday night, after the quarterback tossed three scores against UTSA to earn 24 for 2018. Morgan's 24 touchdown throws surpass previous record holder Alex McGough, who earned 21 in 2015. Morgan was 19-of-29 on the night, with 291 yards and three touchdown passes against UTSA.

FIU also had a fantastic showing on the defensive side as the Panthers just missed out on their second shutout in school history. The Panther secondary picked off four passes, while Rocky Jacques-Louis took his second pick-6 to the house of the season late in the fourth quarter. The defensive line, led by Anthony Johnson, Noah Curtis, Jermaine Sheriff and Kevin Oliver held the Roadrunners to just 102 yards rushing on the night.

After a slow start and missed field goals by both teams, the Panthers finally struck pay dirt early in the second quarter as Morgan floated a pass to Maurice Alexander for a 19-yard touchdown. FIU didn't stay away from the end zone for too long, as the Napoleon Maxwell walked in for a two-yard score midway through the second quarter. The Panthers tacked on their final points of the half as Jose Borregales nailed a 23-yard field goal with time expiring.

With a 17-0 advantage coming out of the locker room, the Panthers kept imposing their will over the Roadrunners as Morgan hooked up with Tony Gaiter IV on a seven-yard score to push the lead to 24-0. Morgan tossed his third touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter as CJ Worton muscled away a jump ball for a 12-yard score.

From there, the Panthers dominated for three fourth quarter touchdowns before UTSA finally got on the board with only 22 seconds remaining
