MIAMI – FIU volleyball standout Abbie Hughes (Mason, Ohio) was named the Conference USA Freshman of the week for the week ending Nov. 4, the league office announced on Monday.
 
Hughes, a freshman setter, registered a pair of 40-plus-assist outings over the Panthers' 1-1 weekend. The newcomer totaled 82 helpers at an average 10.25 per set, including 42 at WKU on Nov. 2, and another 40 at Marshall on Nov. 4. The Ohio product garnered her career's eighth double-double against the Lady Toppers with 10 digs in the effort. She also added four kills and two blocks. On Sunday, Hughes' assists found the floor at a 52 percent efficiency as her offense hit nearly .400 in the sweep of the Thundering Herd.
 
This is Hughes' second weekly C-USA honor, and first Freshman of the Week award. She was named the C-USA Setter of the Week for the week ending Sept. 30.
 
FIU returns home to face Middle Tennessee on Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. to start the final regular season weekend of the season. The Panthers will close out the regular season on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at home against Rice.
