MIAMI – The No. 4 seed FIU volleyball program cruised to a straight-set sweep of No. 5 Liberty in the Conference USA Championship quarterfinals on Friday afternoon inside the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
FIU (19-11) advances to the semifinals for the second time in the last three years and the fourth time overall since joining Conference USA in 2013. The Panthers controlled the match from start to finish, earning their sixth straight victory over Liberty with set scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-22.
With the win, FIU moves on to face No. 8 seed Missouri State in the semifinal round on Saturday, Nov. 22 at noon at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. The Panthers aim to reach the championship match for the first time since 2018.
Three Panthers posted double-figure kill efforts, led by freshman
Rebekah Pfefferkorn, who delivered a team-high 13 kills along with two service aces.
Kira Givans, a First Team All-CUSA selection, added 12 kills and three digs. Graduate student
Sofie Vogel tallied 10 kills and a team-best seven blocks, anchoring FIU's 10-block defensive effort.
Sophomore
Jillian Huckabey contributed eight kills, four digs, and four blocks, while senior
Magda Stambrowska added four kills.
Setter
Savannah Cook recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 41 assists and 10 digs. Libero
Mandi Morioka added nine digs as the Panthers totaled 48 kills and 37 digs on the afternoon.
UP NEXT
With the win, FIU faces No. 8 Missouri State in the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 12 p.m.. It will be streamed live on ESPN+ from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
