JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Dec. 11, 2018) – Despite a hot start to begin Tuesday's contest, the FIU women's basketball team fell to home-standing North Florida by a score of 62-53.
With the defeat, FIU falls to 2-7 on the year, while UNF improves to 4-3 on the season.
Paula Orenes scored 17 for FIU off the bench, while
Ieva Spigule and
TaMiracle Taylor added 11 and 10 respectively.
UNF had four players score in double figures, with Janesha Green leading the way with 15 on the night.
The Panthers began the game on a 14-0 run, with FIU holding a 14-5 advantage after the opening period. The Ospreys bounced back however, as UNF took a 26-25 lead into halftime.
WIth a one-point deficit coming out of the break, FIU responded to retake the lead heading into the fourth quarter but UNF outscored the Panthers 22-12 in the final frame to earn the 62-53 victory.
