MIAMI (Dec. 30, 2018) – Despite a late push, the FIU women's basketball team dropped a tough decision to Jacksonville on Sunday at home, with the Dolphins besting the Panthers, 73-62.
With the loss, FIU falls to 3-10 on the season, while Jacksonville improved to 6-6 on the year. Sunday's game marked the final game of 2018 for the Panthers.
FIU trailed JU by 20 points entering the fourth quarter, but a late rally by the Panthers trimmed the gap to just 11 points. FIU could not overcome the final hurdle however, as the deficit would stay at 11 for the final margin.
FIU was led by
TaMiracle Taylor, who scored 16 points off the bench. JU's Rolanda Hayes scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Dolphins. JU shot 50% from the field on Sunday, while holding FIU to just 32% for the afternoon.
The Panthers trailed the Dolphins 37-22 at halftime, before the Dolphins came out of the locker room to push their lead to 57-37 entering the final period. FIU outscored JU 25-16 in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too much to overcome for the Panthers as the Dolphins escaped Miami victories, 73-62.

With the non-conference slate concluded, the Panthers will open C-USA play on Thursday, Jan. 3 at home against Middle Tennessee.
