MIAMI (Feb.10, 2018) – The FIU women's tennis team (4-1) claimed its third-straight victory, defeating North Florida (4-2), 6-1,
on Saturday afternoon.
FIU took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles portion of the match in less than 30 minutes. Senior
Andrea Lazaro and
Nerma Caluk defeated Lucia Montaño and Florenzia Rossi, 6-1, while senior
Mina Markovic and freshman
Sandra Bozinovic downed Luise Intert and Rafaela Gomez, 6-2.
In singles play, Lazaro, who is ranked No. 3 in the Oracle/ITA National Singles Ranking, defeated UNF's Gomez 6-1, 6-0, and
Grib at the No. 2 position defeated Valentina Mariotto, 6-0, 6-2. Bozinovic clinched the match for the Panthers for the third time this season topping Intert, 6-3, 6-3. Veksler won over Eva Nyikos 6-4, 6-2 while Caluk defeated Irina Karangozishvil 6-4, 6-4. Markovic lost the only match of the day against Montaño, 6-3, 6-1.
FIU will next travel to Denton, Texas to take on North Texas on
Friday, February 23. First serve is set for
2 p.m.
