The Basics
- FIU women's basketball led for over 27 minutes and the entire second half, but not the final 95 seconds as UTSA came back at home to defeat the Panthers 69-66 in an important Conference USA contest Wednesday night. The loss extends FIU's losing skid to seven games  and drops the record to 6-19 overall, 3-9 in C-USA. The Roadrunners are 6-19 also, with a 4-8 league record.
- Except for early and persistent foul trouble, everything was going right for the Panthers, which got out to a quick lead thanks to .563 shooting in the opening quarter. Even with a .333 shooting mark in the second, the FIU defense limited UTSA to just three made field goals in that period.
- UTSA put together its best quarter in the third, outscoring the Panthers by eight to force a 53-all tie into the final stanza.
- The Panthers were called for three unsportsmanlike fouls, two resulting in technical fouls, more than any total FIU season going back to 2006-07, the first year those fouls are tracked by statistics. Those fouls resulted in six free throws for the Roadrunners, five of which were made.
- A three-point field goal by Marie Benson with 1:35 remaining broke open a tie game and UTSA was able to keep the lead the rest of the way.
- Panthers junior Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama) amassed a game-high 23 points and six assists, while adding five rebounds. Sophomore Kayla Rogers (Jacksonville, Florida / Jean Ribault) scored 13 points for the Panthers, with freshman Shante Walker (West Park, Florida / South Broward HS) adding 10 points and three rebounds.
