The Basics
·       Kiandre'a Pound posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds on Senior Day to lead FIU to an 86-65 win over Florida Atlantic, Saturday afternoon at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
·       Kristian Hudson added 21 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as the Panthers scored a season-high 86 points behind 11-of-22 shooting from beyond the arc. In all, four Panthers were in double figures as Kayla Rogers added 17 points and TaMiracle Taylor had 11 points.
·       FIU recognized Pound and graduate senior Quira Demery before the game. FAU quickly tried to spoil Senior Day jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the first quarter. The Panthers responded with a 15-0 run to go ahead, 15-7, with Pound scoring six of those points. The Panthers led 23-15 at the end of the first quarter.
·       FIU connected on 5-of-9 three pointers in the second quarter and scored 15 points off FAU turnovers as the Panthers outscored the Owls, 27-10, in the quarter. Hudson's jumper in the paint with 5:21 left capped off a 13-2 run for FIU to open the quarter. Hudson buried two treys in the final four minutes and Rogers' buzzer-beating banked-shot just over the half court line gave the Panthers a 50-25 halftime lead.
·       FAU outscored FIU, 23-22 in the third quarter, but the Panthers stayed hot from beyond the arc connecting on 3-of-4 three-point attempts. Taylor hit two in the frame while Hudson added her fourth of the game.
·       Pound closed out her final home game scoring six of FIU's 14 fourth quarter points as she hit two three-pointers, grabbed three of her game-high 12 rebounds and had a block.
·       FAU was led by Sasha Cedeno who scored 17 points. Danneal Ford added 16 points and Malia Kency had 11 points. Raven Doyle matched Pound with a game-high 12 boards.
·       FIU shot 44.9 percent for the game and posted 19 assists.
 
Stat of the Game
The Panthers connected on 11-of-22 three-pointers. It was their best performance from beyond the arc since draining 13 treys in the win over Vermont earlier in the season, 80-
 
Next up for FIU
The Panthers get some time off in the midweek, before heading north for another match-up with FAU – this time in Boca Raton. Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m.
