The Basics
·       The FIU bats woke up against Utah State as the Panthers recorded several season-highs in hits (15) and runs (12) in the 12-4 win over Utah State. FIU scored at least one run in every inning against the Aggies on Friday afternoon. The 12^th run in the bottom of the fifth inning for FIU would put this one away for good with the Panthers going up eight runs against USU.
·       FIU is now 3-5, while Utah State falls to 2-5.
·       The Panthers smacked their first two home runs of the season with Kasandra Castle (Lake Worth, Fla./Palm Beach Central) and Venessa Gallegos (Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho) each hitting their firsts of the season.
·       Leadoff hitter Jackie Schoff (Bradenton, Florida/Lakewood Ranch HS) continues to set the tone for the FIU offense and now has 12 hits in 24 at-bats (.500 BA). Schoff now leads the team in runs scored with six in eight games.
·       The Panthers jumped out to a 7-1 lead after scoring five runs in the bottom of the second. They would then tack on three more in the third inning to make it 10-3 Panthers.
·       Kendahl Dunford (Macomb, Michigan) followed up her first collegiate start, with her first collegiate win. Dunford had another quality start going 4 2/3 innings while allowing four runs – three earned. Dunford recorded six strikeouts against the Aggies. 
 
Next up for FIU
The Panthers continue play in the Marucci Desert Classic tomorrow with another double-header. Game one against Cal State Northridge is set for 2:15 p.m. (EST). The second game against San Jose State is set for 4:30 p.m. The Marucci Desert Classic is taking place at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park.
