MIAMI (February 23, 2018) –The FIU women's tennis team began its two-match weekend road trip in Texas with a 4-1 win at North Texas
on Friday afternoon.
The victory marked the Panthers' second win over the Mean Green in school history and improved FIU to 5-1 on the year.
FIU won the first point of the day with two-straight doubles victories. The senior duo of
Andrea Lazaro and
Nerma Caluk defeated the North Texas tandem of Ivana Babic and Naruka Sasaki, 6-0, while
Mina Markovic and
Sandra Bozinovic defeated the Mean Green's Maria Kononeva and Nidni Syrapaneni, 6-2.
In singles action,
Ulyana Grib, currently ranked No. 7 in the Oracle/ITA National Doubles Ranking with Maryna Veskler, won the first singles point against Tamana Kutubizde, 6-3, 6-2. Veksler topped Minying Liang, 1-6, 7-6, 7-5, and Bozinovic clinched the match for FIU, for the third time this season, defeating Nidhi Surapaneni, 6-0, 6-2.
The Panthers will have a quick turnaround as they get back to work on
Saturday, Feb. 24, at 12 p.m. when they faceMarshall.
