@FIUSoftball Splits on Day Two of FIU Classic

Game One Details
FIU 1, Boston College 0 (14 innings)
WP: Shannon Saile (6-2)
LP: Peyton Silverman (1-6)
Records: FIU 8-6, Boston College 4-9
Saturday, February 24th | 3:50 p.m. | Miami, Fla.

 The Basics
- In what felt like a mirror image of last night's game against Boston College, FIU outlasted the Eagles 1-0 in the rematch during day two of the FIU Classic. It took 14-innings, but when Kasandra Castle (Lake Worth, Florida) was hit by Boston College's pitcher with the bases loaded, Erin Eiland (Gainesville, Florida) scored the run FIU was desperately searching for. Despite pounding out 13 hits, FIU struggled to score runs, leaving 13 runners stranded on base.

- In the seventh inning, Shannon Saile (Land 'O' Lakes, Florida) replaced Megan Kugelmann (Merritt Island, Fla./Cocoa Beach HS) and ended up tossing more innings (7.1) than Kugelmann (6.2) and earned the win. Saile allowed no runs, one hit and struck out nine. Her ERA is now under one – 0.92 in 61.1 innings this season.

- Kugelmann has thrown 13.2 innings without allowing a run. Her ERA is currently 2.89.

Game Two Details
Michigan State 2, FIU 0
WP: Bridgette Rainey 4-2
LP: Kendahl Dunford
Records: FIU 8-7, Michigan State 7-6
Saturday, February 24, 2018 | 8:02 p.m. | Miami, Fla.

The Basics
- Continuing the trend for the weekend, FIU received another solid pitching performance, this time a tag-team effort from Kendahl Dunford (Macomb, Michigan) and Allison Muraskin (Deerfield Beach, Florida). The FIU offense, however, struggled to come up with timely hits and lost their first game of the Classic to Michigan State, 2-0. The loss snapped the Panthers three-game winning streak.

- FIU spoiled a golden opportunity in the bottom of the fifth inning. A bunt squeeze was called with Jessica Rivera (Miami, Florida) at the plate, but she was unable to put the bat on the ball, and Erin Eiland was picked off charging home on the squeeze play. Rivera then struck swinging on the next pitch to end the inning.

Next up for FIU
The Panthers will continue play on the last day of the FIU Softball Classic tomorrow with two more games. Game one against Siena is set for 12:15 p.m. and game two against Michigan State is set for 2:30 p.m. at Felsberg Field at the FIU Softball Complex.
